🇩🇪 Germany Part 2… with a quick pop into Austria 🇦🇹

Germany Part 2 kicked off with us arriving back across the border into Kehl

For a sleep stop, before pointing Scamper towards Munich, which was awesome.

We explored the Rathaus and Glockenspiel, watched the completely mad surfers riding the river wave in the Englischer Garten and, of course, experienced a proper Bavarian Biergarten. Giant pretzels bigger than the girls’ heads and enormous steins of beer — when in Bavaria! 🍺🥨

From Munich we headed to Dachau, which was a very different kind of day. Sobering, confronting and incredibly humbling, but something we felt was really important to experience. Afterwards we headed out to beautiful Camping Ampersee for a much-needed quiet night beside the lake.

Then it was back to castles (because apparently we still hadn’t seen enough 😂) with Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, before a quick duck across the border into Austria to explore Innsbruck. 🇦🇹

Then came Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Seriously, is there a better town name in existence?

Even better, we stayed at Camp am Wank.

Yep. You read that right.

We are mature adults and absolutely did not find this funny every single time we said it. 😂

We managed to pack a far amount into two days here. We explored the town, somehow arrived at exactly the right time for an epic Bavarian street parade and festival, went summer tobogganing and headed up one of Germany’s highest mountains.

We caught some awesome cable cars, walked out onto overhanging viewing platforms that were mildly terrifying, hiked through a storm and generally had an absolutely brilliant time. Garmisch was definitely one of those unexpected favourites.

And then it was time for the moment we knew was coming…

After nearly 10,000km, 10 weeks, 13 countries and somewhere approaching 100 stops, it was finally time to say goodbye to Scamper. ❤️

She survived motorways, mountains, tiny medieval streets she definitely had no business driving down, questionable Google Maps directions and 10 weeks with the four of us living in her — notably with zero homicides.

Not a bad effort really. 😂

Scamper headed off for her next adventure in Czechia, and suddenly we were travelling in an Audi A5– which after driving Scamper on the Autobahn for 10 weeks felt like we’d been handed a Formula 500 race car. 😂

We pointed it north towards Rothenburg ob der Tauber and… WOW.

This place is next level. Easily one of the prettiest towns we’ve visited in Europe, which after the number of ridiculously beautiful towns we’ve seen on this trip is saying something.

You can explore the old fortifications and towers all through the town, there are gorgeous medieval streets everywhere, and we found an incredible shop filled with medieval costumes, armour and swords — cue only the second time on this entire trip that the rest of us were left waiting for Stirling to finish shopping. ⚔️😂

We also wandered through the magical Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas shop 🎄 and joined a very cool Night Watchman Tour, where the girls even got recruited to help carry the lantern.

And then, for the final couple of days of our trip, we headed to stay with our German family, who were kind enough to take in four slightly exhausted gypsies at the end of nearly three months on the road. ❤️

It was such a lovely way to finish.

Naturally, we squeezed in more castles — this time in Büdingen and Ronneburg — because why stop now? We found one seriously fancy ice cream shop, wandered through a beautiful deer park and, most importantly, got to spend some really special time before heading home.

After 13 countries, nearly 10,000km, somewhere between 90 and 100 stops, more castles than we could possibly count, mountains, beaches, ferries, cable cars, campsites, medieval towns, questionable roads, one beloved motorhome and a whole lot of adventures…

Germany Part 2 brought us almost all the way to the finish line. 🇩🇪❤️

One final sleep – these four gypsies are heading home. 🥹✈️
