Italy deserves its own series… because trying to squeeze everything into one post would probably break the internet. 😅
Our first stop was Venice, and the excitement levels were high. Three of us had been counting down the days because Italy was right at the top of our bucket list. The fourth was just excited that we might finally stop talking about Italy every five minutes. 😂 (I’ll let you guess who!)
Venice was everything we’d hoped for and more.
We based ourselves at Camping Rialto, which instantly became one of our favourite campsites. Affordable, peaceful, with a pool for the kids, and just a short bus ride into the heart of Venice—it was the perfect base. If you’re planning a visit, I couldn’t recommend it more: https://www.campingrialto.com
From the moment we stepped into the city, Venice felt surreal. We hopped on the vaporetto, wandered tiny laneways, crossed countless bridges, and happily got lost without any real destination. Every turn revealed another postcard-worthy view, another beautiful canal, another hidden square.
And then there was the food… because, well… Italy. 🍕🍝🍨 Every meal somehow seemed better than the last.
The highlight of our second day was visiting Murano. The girls have spent hours watching glass-making videos online, so seeing the masters at work in person at the Original Murano Glass Factory (OMG) was something they’ll never forget. Watching centuries-old techniques being used right in front of us was incredible, and the craftsmanship was simply breathtaking. We couldn’t resist bringing home a few special pieces—some carefully packed and shipped back to Australia, and a few beautiful pieces of jewellery that we’ll wear for the rest of our adventure.
If you’re visiting Murano, this is absolutely worth adding to your itinerary: https://www.originalmuranoglass.com.
We finished our time with a little more wandering, a little more shopping, a lot more eating, and a relaxing afternoon by the campsite pool before saying goodbye to Venice.
If this was Italy’s way of welcoming us… we knew we were in for something pretty special.
